Damien Hirst

King of the Young British Artists who are no longer young and weren't really when they got the moniker.

Self-professed bad boy of the art world - and as you can see it is him rather than his work that catches the attention. His work is simplistic existential angst, married with a super-simplistic painting ethos that has given him a key-note style of different coloured spots.

Damien Hirst's early work did include some masterpieces, in particular the butterfly pieces where blank canvases were painted and butterflies were hatched and flew into them, being caught by the paint and dying (presumably) horrible deaths. Poignant, unlike his huge model of a child's toy which very much isn't.

Darling of Charles Saatchi the advertising guru who turned his hand to making money from fine art.
